Black Lives Matter town halls happening Tuesdayin Phoenix

Two separate town hall meetings in the Black Lives Matter movement are taking place Tuesday night. 

One of the meeting is happening at Eastlake Park, located at 1549 E. Jefferson Street, in Phoenix at 8 p.m. and it open to the public. The town hall will be hosted by Rev. Jarrett Maupin and the Black Lives Matter Arizona unofficial organization, according to Katt McKinney, a community organizer. 

The other town hall meeting is happening at Impacted for Purpose, located at 7830 East University Drive in Mesa, at 6:30 p.m. and it is also open to the public. This town hall will be being hosted by Dr. Matthew Whitaker and Pastor Lovelle McMichael, according to Pastor Warren Stewart, Jr. 

The separate town halls are not affiliated but both groups said that they plan to strategize ideas with community members. A pair of police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota last week created a weekend of contentious clashes between police and demonstrators around the country.
