PHOENIX — A Goodyear School District is responding to a family's claim they failed to report sexual abuse by sixth grade teacher Brittany Zamora.

Zamora pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct charges after she admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old student.

In a lawsuit, the students' parents allege that Las Brisas Academy Principal Timothy Dickey received notes from the students telling him about the inappropriate relationship between Zamora and the student.

The parents claim Dickey did nothing about the allegations and dismissed them as rumors.

The district admitted that students did report those rumors and that the principal didn't notify law enforcement.

The district stated that they "lacked knowledge or information sufficient to form a belief about the truth of the allegations" submitted by 13-year-old boy's family.

ABC15 reached out to a spokesperson with the Arizona Department of Education who confirmed Brittany Zamora surrendered her teaching certificate in December 2018 and is not eligible to reapply until 2023.

Earlier this month, Zamora plead guilty to three of the eight counts she was initially facing. Zamora is expected to be sentenced on July 12.
