The mother of a girl who authorities say was sexually abused by a founder of the Minuteman border-watch movement has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to bar him from questioning the child at his April 4 trial.
Christopher Simcox is representing himself on charges that he sexually abused two girls under the age of 10 and wants to personally cross-examine the girls.
Last year, an Arizona appellate court refused to prohibit Simcox from questioning the girls, and the Arizona Supreme Court later declined to review that decision.
The girl's mother is now asking the U.S. Supreme Court to take up her appeal and require that a lawyer question the girl on Simcox's behalf.
Simcox has pleaded not guilty to charges and denied allegations that he abused the girls.
