Authorities say an Arizona prison inmate has died after being found unresponsive in her cell.

Arizona Department of Corrections officials say 18-year-old Mariam Abdullah died Wednesday afternoon at a hospital in Goodyear.

They say she was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday evening after staff observed her unresponsive in her cell "from an apparent act of self-harm." Details weren't immediately available.

Officials say prison staff performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.

Abdullah was sentenced to three years in prison out of Maricopa County for armed robbery.

She was most recently housed at the state prison in Perryville.

Corrections officials say all inmate deaths are investigated in consultation with the county Medical Examiner's Office.
