A family is demanding justice for their dog who is now at the center of a gruesome animal cruelty case.

Chelsea Bailey says her Chihuahua, Lucky, was tortured, mutilated and killed by someone who she thought was a family friend.

Phoenix Police say Lance Barkhurst admitted to killing the dog, after bragging about it to friends, even documenting the killing with pictures on his phone.

Bailey says Barkhurst's girlfriend turned him in.

Phoenix Police went on to tell Bailey, Barkhurst revealed the motivation behind the killing was the TV Show "Dexter".

"I was totally in shock, I guess we all were," said Bailey. "It was really sad."

Barkhurst was indicted by a grand jury and now faces felony animal cruelty charges.

The family has started a petition, asking prosecutors to seek the maximum penalty against Barkhurst.

Barkhurst is currently in jail, being held on $1,800 bail. He is scheduled to be back in court on February 29.
