An ammonia leak at the Shamrock Farm Diary in Phoenix sent five people to a hospital for treatment.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, five people complained of having a burning sensation in their eyes at the dairy farm located near Black Canyon Highway and Cypress Street.

A spokesperson for Phoenix Fire said the five people were all males between the ages of 35 and 65.

It isn't immediately clear if the five are employees of the dairy.

Shamrock Farms released a statement Friday afternoon confirming the leak had been contained.

Earlier today, the Shamrock Farms Dairy Processing Plant experienced a leak in an ammonia holding tank. We can confirm that the leak has been contained. Immediately upon learning of the situation, Shamrock Farms top priority was the safe evacuation of any employees or other persons within the building, which has been accomplished.

We understand that people have been transported for evaluation at medical facilities.

We are working diligently with the Fire Department to follow all procedures set in place for this situation. We will communicate further information when it becomes available.
