Several firefighters were hospitalized Thursday morning after extinguishing a hazardous materials-involved fire at a pool supply company in Phoenix.

According to Phoenix Fire, crews were called to the scene near 32nd Street and McDowell Road around 3 a.m.

People nearby reported seeing a large cloud over the area, while ABC15 reporter Justin Pazera reported smelling chlorine in the air.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but the pool chemicals caused problems for those on the scene.

Six firefighters were taken to the hospital -- five for respiratory issues and one for a minor leg injury. All six were released from the hospital Thursday evening.

McDowell Road was closed between 32nd and 36th streets for several hours but has since reopened.
