PHOENIX — One person has died and another was taken to the hospital after a crash in Phoenix.
A Phoenix Police Department spokesman said an SUV was southbound on Cave Creek Road when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll and crash into a utility pole and tree. The driver, 36-year-old Christopher O'Dell, was pronounced dead at the scene and another man, a 23-year-old passenger, was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition, police said.
An outage map for APS originally showed nearly 3,000 customers were without power in the area around the crash scene. As of Thursday at 7:00 p.m., APS said all power had been restored.
Speed appeared to "undoubtedly" have played a role in the crash, according to Sgt. Vince Lewis, who added that it was still under investigation. Impairment is also believed to be a factor.
No further details were immediately available.
