PHOENIX — The kitten stolen from the Arizona Humane Society last week has been returned to the shelter.
Zeus was taken from the humane society's Sunnyslope campus around 2 p.m. on Tuesday just hours after he appeared on ABC15.
Phoenix police say 18-year-old Joan Reyes called officers on June 7 to turn himself in for taking the kitten, but did not say where he was keeping Zeus. The kitten was found Monday and returned to the shelter, according to a police spokesperson.
“We are so grateful to have Zeus back safely and can’t thank Detective Krimm enough for going above and beyond,” said Jane Herrera, who manages the Arizona Humane Society's adoptions, rescue and retail operations.
The 12-week-old kitten was found unharmed, the shelter said.
Reyes was arrested and charged with one count of theft, police said.
