Harmless Halloween decor or something more?

Residents in a central Phoenix neighborhood say they were alarmed to see their neighbor's display featuring four bloodied sheets hanging from a tree with nooses around the necks.

One woman told us she's offended by the decorations and feels they are extremely inappropriate.

"My most generous assessment is that it is a defiant, very racist act to make people feel unwelcome in this community, and it's heartbreaking," neighbor Amanda Gilmore said.

ABC15 spoke to the homeowner, who said the decorations were simply up for a Halloween party and he did not anticipate the reactions from his neighbors. He took down the display after hearing the objections.

After this story aired, a woman who helped plan the Halloween party told ABC 15 the decorations were not intended to be racist or malicious but made after the movie ‘Sinister.’
