Posted

A man accused of shooting an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper in the face will stand trial this summer.

Ramon Bueno's trial is expected to start June 6 in Maricopa County Superior Court.

DPS trooper James Caseywas on patrol near Interstate 17 in October 2014 when he pulled over a vehicle with heavily tinted windows, which is a felony in Arizona.

While Casey was questioning the driver, authorities say Bueno opened fire from the back seat of the vehicle.

Authorities say the 40-year-old Bueno was arrested in the case after a weeklong manhunt.

He pleaded not guilty in November 2014 to attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and drug charges.

Casey recovered from his injuries and returned to duty in July 2015.
