PHOENIX — A man has been arrested after police say he slapped a teen whom he claims threw a grape at his girlfriend while at an amusement park in Phoenix.
According to court documents, 44-year-old Franklin Brown was at Castles N' Coasters on Saturday with his girlfriend. Around 7:45 p.m., an off-duty Phoenix police detective saw Brown assault a teenage boy.
The off-duty detective reported seeing Brown arguing with a 13-year-old boy and accusing him of throwing a grape at his girlfriend while she sat in the cafe area.
Documents state that during the argument, Brown questioned the teen about what was in his bag and discovered grapes. The off-duty detective then reported seeing Brown assault the teen by slapping the left side of his face with an open right hand.
The teen admitted to police that he had grapes in his bag, but says he was sharing them with his family and denied throwing anything.
The off-duty detective questioned Brown's girlfriend, who said she did not see who threw the grape at her. She told the detective that when she was sitting in the cafe area, something hit her in the head, and when she looked down, she saw a grape.
Police officers arrested Brown and have charged him with aggravated assault of a minor.
