Man records baggage handler at Sky Harbor throwing boxes

A Phoenix man says he was so shocked at what he watched from the window of a plane, he decided to pull out his cell phone and start recording.

Video taken by Loudin Krueg appears to show a baggage handler chucking boxes from the plane's conveyor belt into the transportation bins.

"Just like 'here we go, toss," Krueg said of what he witnessed. "You could take three steps and set it down, it's not like it was far. It's just lazy."

Krueg says he landed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Monday night, where he caught the baggage handler on camera.

"I wish I was just mad," he said. "I was just really disappointed to know that's the type of care that they're giving to other peoples' property."

What concerned Krueg even more is what appears to be printed on the side of some of the boxes. They appear to read "Live tropical fish," although it's unclear what was actually inside.

"I feel like even if it doesn't have a sticker on it that marks it as something that's fragile you should just assume there's something fragile inside of it," he said.

ABC15 reached out to Southwest Airlines, which sent the following statement:

The video is deeply concerning. We expect our Employees to treat all Customers’ luggage and cargo as they would their own. We will work with the Employee to retrain on policies and procedures to prevent this type of handling again.

We are reaching out to those Customers whose shipments were involved and so far have been assured their Cargo shipments were not damaged.
