A mother accused of leaving her child for days with a friend knowing the little girl was being abused pleaded not guilty to the charges Tuesday.

Mayra Solis pleaded not guilty to charges of child abuse in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Police say Solis left her child under the care of Francisco Javier Rios-Covarrubias, a friend, for days at a time while she worked, knowing that he at times left the girl home alone while he went to work.

Rios-Covarrubias pleaded not guilty to several charges Tuesday, including sex trafficking, kidnapping, sexual conduct with a minor and felony child abuse.

In January, officers found the girl bound with duct tape inside a trash bag hidden within a closet of Rios-Covarrubias' home.

Police said Rios-Covarrubias agreed to meet another man at his home for sex and then offered the girl up for sex.
