An inmate already behind bars has been accused of jamming his cell door with soap and then assaulting a detention officer.

Ruben Tewa, 23, is currently at the Fourth Avenue Jail facing charges of armed robbery, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.

On Sept. 28, according to court records, a detention officer became aware of a cell door that wouldn't close and began to investigate. That officer found soap pieces had been jammed into the door to stop it from closing all the way.

Tewa was housed in that cell.

Detention officers ordered Tewa to place his hands through the cell door so he could be put in handcuffs. Instead, according to the report, Tewa pushed the cell door open and punched one of the officers.

Tewa said in documents that he pushed the door open because he feels the inmates are being disrespected.
