PHOENIX — Starting next week, St. Mary's Food Bank is changing its hours for its food distribution at its Phoenix and Surprise locations, as well as transitioning them to full drive-thru service.

Here is what you need to know.

Beginning on Monday, April 13, St. Mary's Food Bank will distribute food at its Phoenix, 3131 W. Thomas, and Surprise, 13050 W. Elm Street, locations from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. The previous hours were 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

People picking up food will also not be allowed to leave their vehicles. Beginning Monday, volunteers will load the food into vehicle trunks and trunk beds. People will still need to have ID or proof of address with them.

In a news release, the food bank said it was making these changes because they believe they can serve the same amount of people in fewer hours via the drive-thru model. The extra time will also allow volunteers to prepare for the next day.

Currently, they are serving 1,200 - 1,500 families a day, the food bank said.
