Monsoon storm knocks out power to thousands in the Valley

A monsoon storm that developed Wednesday evening brought dust, wind and heavy rain to parts of the Valley.

The storm also knocked out power to thousands of customers.

A total of nearly 60,000 customers were listed without power as of 9 p.m. Wednesday.

By Thursday morning (915 a.m.) APS reported 153 customers were still without power, while SRP reported 4,000 customers were without electricity.

APS says there are 20 poles down across Valley. Most outages are in the Scottsdale, Tempe and Phoenix areas.

In north Scottsdale, the storm knocked power lines down on passing vehicles.

APS says any residents who were affected by the power outages in Phoenix can purchase up to 40 pounds of bagged ice or 20 pounds of dry ice to help preserve their perishables. Customers can send their receipts to APS for full reimbursement. When sending your receipt, please including your name and send to:
