It is a piece of paper that turns people into parents.
On Saturday, more than 250 children right here in the Valley were officially adopted by many who already love them like their own, as part of National Adoption Day.
ABC15 went inside the juvenile courthouse in Phoenix the moment one boy, named Cayden, gained his forever family. The Mitchell family brought quite the crowd with them — a strong support system who said they are thrilled they are now an official family unit.
"We're just so happy to have him in our family to love him and to take care of him," said Nora Mitchell, Cayden's great aunt. "It's a blessing."
This event Saturday was apart of a national movement to raise awareness about the thousands of kids in the foster care system who are waiting to be adopted.
