PHOENIX — New information has been released in the death of Officer Paul Rutherford. The 51-year-old Phoenix police veteran was killed in a collision in March of last year.
Officer Rutherford was investigating a car crash near Indian School Road and 75th Avenue shortly before 8:30 a.m. when another driver hit and killed him.
Police reports show the driver who hit Officer Rutherford was going as fast as 50 miles per hour before the impact.
The driver did stay on the scene and testing determined she was not impaired. Another officer's body camera captured her emotional reaction.
"He jumped in front of me. Why would he do that? Why?" she cried as the investigation continued around her.
