The son of actor Jean-Claude Van Damme was sentenced to 18 months probation Wednesday.

Nicholas Van Varenberg pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct on Aug 15, stemming from a 2017 incident where he held his roommate at knifepoint in their Tempe apartment.

Police say Van Varenberg became upset at his unidentified roommate for answering the door, grabbed a knife and kept his roommate from leaving the apartment.

Surveillance video showed Van Varenberg attempting to drag his roommate back into their apartment after he escaped but was unsuccessful, police paperwork said. The roommate ran downstairs afterward and escaped telling authorities the suspect refused to let him leave.

The 22-year-old Van Varenberg is the youngest son of Van Damme, known for his martial arts action films of the 1980s and 1990s.
