PD: Man struck, killed at Phoenix intersection

A 61-year-old man was struck and killed as a he crossed a Phoenix street Monday night.

Police spokesman Sgt. Vince Lewis said officers responded to the scene near 33rd and Northern avenues around 7:40 p.m. after reports that a pedestrian had been hit.

According to Lewis, the driver of a GMC Sierra was stopped on north 33rd Avenue turning left onto west Northern Avenue, and collided with James White as he crossed southbound at the intersection.

White was in the marked crosswalk when he was struck.

Lewis said the driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.

White was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Charges are currently under review, Lewis said.
