UPDATE: DPS now says they were never in pursuit of a vehicle and they only asked for assistance for a traffic stop. The driver was stopped but not arrested.
DPS said the driver may have been the victim of a plate swap.
A suspect in a stolen car is in custody after leading police on a chase from Tempe to Phoenix Thursday night.

Phoenix police said officers began following the vehicle as the man drove westbound on US 60 near McClintock Drive. A Dept. of Public Safety spokesperson confirmed the man attempted to flee in a vehicle with stolen plates.
As an aerial unit and several marked vehicles pursued the suspect, he traveled into Phoenix. Officers converged on the car near 38th Street and Indian School Road.
Air15 video showed the suspect exiting the vehicle and being taken into custody.
DPS said no injuries were reported and the subject was arrested. Authorities did not immediately have information on possible charges.
