PHOENIX — A Phoenix Children's hospital employee has been diagnosed with coronavirus.
The hospital says the employee is a physician at an ambulatory clinic. The doctor reportedly began showing symptoms late Friday evening while off-duty. The doctor was tested for coronavirus, which came back positive.
"The physician treated one patient in clinic on Friday and did not examine any other patients in person last week. The provider was not symptomatic while working on Friday and adhered to best practices, which included standard precautions, for infection control," the hospital says.
"Per guidance from the CDC, Maricopa County Department of Health and our precautionary measures exercised in the clinic, exposure is unlikely."
The doctor is now self-isolating and recovering at home, Phoenix Children's says. They believe the doctor was exposed to COVID-19 in a "community setting."
