The Phoenix Police Department needs more than 800 new officers to meet their staffing goals. Phoenix city council members are discussing ways to raise the money needed.
The Phoenix Police Department needs to hire 837 officers to meet its goal of having 2.5 officers for every 1,000 residents.
The money is currently not in the budget.
The City Council is discussing potential revenue sources. Two options include raising the local sales tax and/or reinstating the food tax.
The discussion will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday and is open to the public.
