PHX firefighters adopt girl in freeway attack

Posted

A heartwarming update to a story we've been tracking since November.

A Phoenix fire station is taking a little girl under its wing. The 9-year-old was riding in a car with her mom on Interstate 10 near downtown, when police say Michael Kerrick started throwing large rocks at traffic.

The rocks shattered the front windshield of the car causing significant injuries to the little girl's face.

“We discovered a lot of the young girls medical bills had to be paid out of pocket by her mother. She's a single mother of five kids she has to take the kids to work with her,” said Phoenix firefighter Jacob Hale,

The girl still has more surgeries ahead of her, so the firefighters set up a GoFundMe page that's already raised nearly $1,400 in only 10 days.

Crews also adopted the family over the holidays bringing them meals and presents.
