The mayor of Phoenix and his wife are separating.
Mayor Greg Stanton and wife Nicole Stanton announced Thursday that they have separated after 10 years of marriage.
In a statement posted on the mayor's public Facebook page, the couple says it was a "difficult but amicable decision."
They will reside in separate places while raising their two children.
Both say they will continue attending public events apart and together.
They also ask for respect for their privacy.
Greg Stanton was sworn in to his second four-year term as mayor earlier this month.
He was first elected in November 2011 and won re-election last August.
