PHOENIX — A Phoenix police officer was involved in a shooting near 15th Avenue and Camelback Road Thursday evening.
According to police officials, a uniformed officer, who was off-duty at the time, was directing traffic in the area when he heard commotion coming from a nearby Rally's restaurant parking lot.
The officer got out of his own vehicle to check on the noise and found a man pointing a gun at two adults in the parking lot.
The officer drew his weapon and officials say he gave commands for the armed man to drop his gun. A short time later, the officer fired his weapon, striking the man.
The man, whose name hasn't been released, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, but he's expected to survive.
Authorities believe this incident may be related to a nearby shoplifting incident.
Once the man is released from a hospital he is expected to be booked into jail on multiple charges.
