Phoenix police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday morning.

The incident happened Sunday around 8:30 a.m. near 32nd Street and McDowell Road.

Police say one suspect, identified as John Wussler, was shot several times. He died from his injuries.

No officers were injured.

According to police, officers were responding because the suspect had allegedly broken an order of protection by being at an apartment complex in the area.

Police say the 58-year-old man had previously lived at the location and was trying to retrieve some property. After trying to make contact with the suspect, officers say the man ran away on foot.

Police put up a perimeter around the complex and began searching for the man, who officers discovered had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

An officer saw the man running through the complex and gave chase. Once the officer caught the suspect, police say a fight ensued, forcing the officer to draw his Taser. According to officials, as the officer drew his taser the suspect pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officer.

The 28-year-old officer with two years of service dropped his Taser and pulled out his own handgun and shot the suspect several times, ending the threat. Detectives found a loaded handgun at the scene.
