Phoenix police are asking for the public's help after a 70-year-old woman was found lying in the roadway in northwest Phoenix, apparently after being hit by a vehicle and then left there.
Officer James Holmes said the woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition. Officers have contacted the woman's family.
Police released her name on Thursday as Betty Carol Wiles.
Police said the incident happened on Friday evening near 73rd Avenue and Indian School Road. Officers received a 911 call just before 7 p.m.
There was very little evidence at the scene, but police believe the woman may have been hit by a vehicle, said Holmes.
One witness told police that he or she saw the woman walking eastbound on the sidewalk on the south side of Indian School Road 10 minutes earlier.
Another witness told police that a gold-colored Chevrolet Silverado was seen in the area at the time, but did not witness a collision.
Police said another witness reported seeing a "red" vehicle stopped near the woman and a male passenger get out and drag her to the curb before running away.
Holmes is asking anyone who may have been in the area last Friday and saw something or may have information on what happened to contact police at 480-WITNESS.
