Police say a suspect was injured during an officer-involved shooting in Phoenix on Monday night.
According to Phoenix police officials, the shooting happened near 20th Street and Glendale Avenue.
Police say officers responded to a report of an aggravated assault before 8 p.m. The victim reportedly called police from a safe location and said the suspect, 77-year-old Robert Zummo, pointed a handgun at them for unknown reasons.
Officers responded to the home and tried to make contact with Zummo for about an hour. At that time, Zummo exited the home with a handgun.
Two officers fired at Zummo, but it's unclear if Zummo was hit by gunfire. The suspect reportedly only suffered superficial wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Zummo was booked into jail and charged with three counts of aggravated assault on police.
There were no injuries to officers, police say.
This is the 53rd officer-involved shooting in the Valley so far in 2018 and the 31st within the city limits of Phoenix.
