The Phoenix Rescue Mission is calling Code Red.
Starting Monday, the shelter will use its Hope Caravan to hit city streets and pass out cold bottles of water and toiletries to the homeless.
Since the Valley can get extremely hot during the summer, the shelter wants to help keep the homeless population as cool as possible.
ABC15 tagged along in the Hope Caravan, visiting well-known homeless camps. Most of the camps are so well hidden it’s hard for the general public to spot them. One is right off Interstate 10.
"There's no way they realize," says Cliff Danley with the Phoenix Rescue Mission. "How close they are to that? There's no way they realize."
Besides the water, the homeless could get a ride back to the Phoenix Rescue Mission where there are resources to help them get on their feet.
This is the fifth year for the Code Red Program.
