Police were on scene of an unknown incident on Wednesday afternoon around 2 p.m.
The incident happened near 24th Avenue and Indian School Road.
Phoenix police and fire crews were on scene when a man was on top of a roof saying he would not come down. The man eventually did get off of the roof via a ladder.
Police originally came to the scene for a call of gunfire in the area. But when officers pulled up, they only saw the man scamper onto the roof of a small car dealership.
Police now believe the man on the roof made a hoax call about shots fired to draw police to the scene. Given a recent attack on three Phoenix police officers, the police in this situation took their time talking the man down from the roof.
"Absolutely, everybody's being cautious right now, just the current climate, and the subject, obviously he's having some issues, we want to be extra safe especially when there's a claim of gunfire," said Lieutenant Nick Diponzio with the Phoenix Police Department.
Before police showed up, neighbors reported hearing someone yelling for help and screaming for someone to call 9-1-1. Police are taking the man in for an evaluation.
