Police are investigating after a man was found dead in Phoenix Wednesday morning.
At 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a body found near 7th Street and McDowell Road.
Thirteen-year-old Alejandro Alvarez-Grimes says he found the body in an alley while taking out the garbage.
"I was hoping he was just passed out — not dead," Alvarez-Grimes said. "My mind just went away for a second; I was just really scared."
Authorities say the victim was a 27-year-old man who does not live in Arizona. Police are working on notifying his family.
"He had, like, duct tape all around his face...but not around his mount," Alvarez-Grimes described. "It looked like he had been dumped in the alley."
Alvarez-Grimes' aunt, Queen Hendrix, says the 13-year-old is traumatized about the incident. She said they'll be "more cautious now."
"I was scared so I didn't get too close up on it; I just looked through the back gate," Hendrix said. "We didn't hear anything and we have dogs — our dogs didn't bark or give any suspicions or anything of that sort."
Officials initially said there are "suspicious circumstances" but later told ABC15 that they're investigating it as a homicide.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department or 480-WITNESS.
