PHOENIX — Phoenix police had a large area near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport blocked off Wednesday while they searched for a suspect involved in a deadly stabbing.

Police say officers responded to the area of 48th and Washington streets around 10:20 a.m. for reports of a stabbing.

At the scene, 30-year-old Errol Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering critical injuries.

Officials say Morgan and another individual were in a fight with "edged weapons" when Morgan was stabbed.

The suspect left the area before police arrived and was believed to also have "sharp force" injuries, according to police.

Police say a man was located and detained Wednesday night in connection to the stabbing. The man provided statements about self-defense that a witness also confirmed.

The man was released from custody and Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will reportedly review the submitted charges.
