Man tries to use fake ID to get car from police

Posted

A Phoenix man who had his car impounded by police is accused of trying to use a fake driver's license to get it back.

Court documents show that 35-year-old Alonzo Herrera Ledesma went to the Phoenix police impound lot near 17th and Grant streets on Feb. 8 to retrieve his vehicle.

The problem was that his driver's license was not only expired, but fake, according to police.

A forgery document expert confirmed it was fake and, according to the police report, Ledesma admitted to buying it for $40 in 2001.

Instead of getting his car--which is still impounded--he now faces two counts of forgery.
