Diane Douglas recall group short of signatures

Posted

A group trying to recall the state's top school official says it is far short of collecting the needed signatures with just a month left to gather them.

The Coalition to Recall Diane Douglas said Tuesday it has collected less than 100,000 of the nearly 370,000 signatures needed to force a recall election. They have until Dec. 30 to collect those signatures.

Coalition Chairman Max Goshert say the group's volunteers are continuing to collect signatures to add to the "five figures" it now has.

The recall petition cites Douglas' feud with the state Board of Education and says she's focused on increasing her power rather than on students and school performance.

Douglas spokesman Charles Tack says she's focused on supporting students, teachers and schools and isn't following the recall effort.
