PHOENIX — Update: (February 25, 2020)
According to AZ Humane Society's Instagram page, both Puddles and Cuddles have been adopted!
Humane Society officials say eight families showed up interested in adopting the pups so a drawing was held. Cuddles now lives in Chandler with two other canine siblings and Puddles now resides in Phoenix.
Original Story:
Two Shar-Pei puppies that were rescued from a truck that crashed into a Mesa gas station and caught fire are looking for their "fur-ever" home.
The crash occurred at a QuikTrip station near McKellips Road and Country Club Drive late last month.
Police say Eduardo Marquez was driving in a pickup truck and crashed into the gas pumps at the station. He then allegedly fled the scene on foot while the truck caught fire. Inside the truck were two puppies who were fortunately rescued by fire crews.
The puppies were treated at a Mesa veterinary center for burns on their paws and melted plastic in their fur before they were transferred to the Arizona Humane Society's Trauma Hospital.
The puppies, both six-month-old females now named Puddles and Cuddles, have been in AHS’ care ever since.
The suspect faces charges for DUI, leaving the scene of a collision, criminal damage and two counts of animal cruelty.
