Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton says Phoenix police are well-prepared for the anticipated protests at a planned Donald Trump speech in Phoenix.

Stanton said he couldn't elaborate on public safety plans but said the police department and the Secret Service are working together to ensure safety.

Trump will outline his immigration policy at the city's convention center on Wednesday evening.

Prior rallies have drawn tense protests and even arrests. Anti-Trump protesters shut a major road down before a Trump rally in Fountain Hills earlier this year.

Stanton and other Democratic leaders held a news conference in the morning denouncing Trump and his policies. Stanton said he couldn't say how many Phoenix officers would work the event but said he was confident they would keep the peace.
