Valley animal shelters issue 'Code Red' alert amid overcrowding

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control has issued a "Code Red Alert," meaning they are over-crowded and at capacity, at both their East and West locations. 

Currently, their West Valley location is housing more than 500 dogs and normal capacity is around 400. Their East Valley location is housing more than 350 dogs with normal capacity around 300. 

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is encouraging people to adopt one of their shelter dogs to help control the shelter population.

Normal pricing for dog adoptions: 

  • Six months of age and younger: $300
  • Seven months of age and older and more than 20 pounds: $50-$150
  • Seven months of age and older and less than 20 pounds: $75 - $200
  • Shelter Super Heroes: Up to $300
