A Phoenix man is accused of killing his long-time friend, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Investigators said Matthew Meiner, 22, used a knife to murder Matthew McLean, 22, Wednesday at a house near 10th Street and Fillmore. Meiner was located and arrested a short time later near 7th Street and  McDowell Road.

According to court documents, officers responded to the house after McLean’s ex-girlfriend went to the check on him after not hearing from him in a couple days.

When she opened the door she found blood covering the floor and did not go inside.

The woman called her boss to come to the house, who also knew McLean and he saw what appeared to be a body under a blanket.

Officers went inside the home and confirmed a body was under the blanket.

Medical examiners determined the victim was stabbed over 70 times.

Meiner told the victim’s ex-girlfriend he cut his hand on a knife with the victim present.

She asked why McLean did not take him to the hospital and he said he took himself.

Meiner was arrested outside of his attorney’s office on Wednesday morning.

Police did not reveal a motive for the killing, but said Meiner had taken McLean’s car beforehand. The vehicle, which is missing, is described as a 2008 charcoal-colored Audi hatchback with a California license plate.
