The charges have been upgraded for a man accused of shooting his wife in the face during an argument.

Online records show 26-year-old Vince Romero faces a second-degree murder charge after his wife died from her injuries.

Police say Romero shot his wife near West Buckeye Road and S. 17th Avenue late Thursday night.

Officers arrived on the scene to find her with a gunshot wound. Several people tried to help before first responders arrived.

Romero remains in Maricopa County custody on a $350,000 bond related to the previous charge of aggravated assault, according to online jail records.
