Waste Management truck drivers are teaming up with Phoenix Police to help keep neighborhoods safe.
On Thursday morning, 55 trash and recycle drivers went through training on how to look for and report suspicious or criminal activity to police.
The program is called Waste Watch. It started back in 2004 and is now in more than 270 counties.
District Manager Bill Faultner says the program has been very successful. For example, in 2009, a driver provided a tip that helped the FBI capture a bank robber in New Mexico.
“Some of our drivers have gone through the training and others have not,” said Faulter. “It teaches our guys to be eyes and ears while looking out in areas to be able to spot things and notify first responders.”
