PHOENIX — Authorities are investigating after a woman was hit and killed by a train in Phoenix Thursday evening.
The incident occurred sometime before 5:45 p.m. near 27th Avenue and Thomas Road.
A woman identified as 34-year-old Ciara Chacon was walking near the train tracks when she was distracted by an altercation occurring nearby. Police say she stepped back onto the tracks and was struck by a train.
She died from her injuries at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Family has reportedly created a GoFundMe they say will help support Chacon's children and memorial services.
