SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ — A child has been rushed to the hospital after being run over during a parade in San Tan Valley.

According to Shawn Gilleland with the Rural Metro Fire Department, a 10-year-old child ran up to a float in the parade trying to grab candy from the back. The child's right foot reportedly got caught underneath a back tire, knocking the child down and causing the back tire to run up the right side of his body, Gilleland said.

Gilleland said a helicopter was initially called in to take the child to a hospital, but clarified in an evening update that the helicopter was grounded and not used. The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said the child suffered minor injuries.

The parade was taking place near Kenworthy Road and Loveland Lane near Ranch Elementary School.
