Police negotiate with man who climbed Phoenix radio tower

PHOENIX — A man who climbed up a radio tower in Phoenix has made it down safely following negotiations with police.

Phoenix police said just before 10 a.m., officers responded to the area near 40th Street and Thomas Road regarding a man who was climbing up the tower.

When officers arrived at the scene, the man was partially up the tower and they were able to communicate with him.

The man had reportedly made statements indicating he wanted to hurt himself.

He kept climbing up the tower and made it to the top.

Fire officials said, "this is an extremely complex rescue situation."

Police said the man was able to make it down safely after about two hours of negotiations.

The man did not suffer any injuries and was taken into custody.
