PHOENIX — Phoenix police say an armed man who allegedly entered a woman's home was shot and killed by an officer on Saturday.
Police say around 11:45 a.m., officers responded to a call of an armed man in the backyard of a woman's home near 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road.
While on the phone with 911, the woman told police that she was hiding and that the suspect was inside her home.
When officers arrived on scene, they were able to evacuate the woman out of one of the home’s windows.
Police say officers went to the back of the home and positioned themselves behind a block wall.
One officer saw the suspect exit the Arcadia door and go into the backyard. Police say the suspect, later identified as Anthony Greco, 29, was armed with a handgun, and the officer gave him commands to drop the gun, but he refused and raised it toward the officer. The officer fired one round that struck and killed Greco.
Officials say life-saving measures were started by officers, but Greco was pronounced deceased on scene by the Phoenix Fire Department.
The gun was discovered under Greco and there were no injuries to any officers or other community members, according to Phoenix Police Sgt. Ann Justus.
