A North Phoenix woman welcomed a 4th of July baby in a very unusual way on Monday morning.
Phoenix Fire officials responded to the home near 27th Street and Greenway Parkway in response to a drowning call.
When the arrived, crews instead found that a woman had prematurely given birth in the bathroom.
The grandmother reportedly called to report that she found the baby in the empty bathtub.
Fortunately, officials say the baby, born at 33 weeks, was alert and crying and has been taken to the hospital.
Both mother and baby were in stable condition at the time. Fire crews expect the baby to remain at the hospital for several weeks to be monitored.
