A handgun was located in a student's backpack at North Canyon High School on Wednesday shortly before noon.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officials at North Canyon High School were told there was a student who may have a weapon on them.
Police investigated and discovered a 17-year-old student at the school did have a weapon in a backpack.
The student was detained for one count of disrupting an educational facility.
The school, located at Union Hills Drive between 16th Street and 19th Place, was placed on a brief lockdown that was later lifted.
