A 44-year-old man is in custody after a bizarre car repossession situation in Phoenix.
Phoenix police said Patrick MacGillivray was at the Fry’s grocery store near 27th Avenue and Bell Road on Thursday. When he exited the store with two children he found his car was being repossessed.
According to police, MacGillivray got into vehicle that was still attached to the tow truck and attempted to drive away. In the process of driving away with the car he disconnected the vehicle from the tow truck, damaging the vehicle.
As the suspect was attempting to drive away, a 3-year-old child was injured with non-life threatening injuries.
MacGillivray was able to collect the children and drive away from the scene. He was later located near 113th Avenue and Grand where he was taken into custody.
The 44-year-old was booked into jail for aggravated assault, endangerment and criminal damage.
