Neighborhood seeing results using block watch website Nextdoor

People in one Phoenix neighborhood are using social media to watch over their block – and they're seeing results.

"It’s amazing because you talk to people you never talked to before and find out what's going on in the neighborhood," said David Zumstein.

He and other neighbors near 28th Street and Beardsley Road used Nextdoor.com to document concerns about a house in the area. They complained of a never-ending yard sale, people constantly going in and out and alleged burglaries and drug use tied to the home’s residents and guests.

"We're always looking out because I don't tolerate thieves," Zumstein said. “We all just gotta band together and fight the crime ourselves.”

Last week, after their discussion on Nextdoor.com generated more than 300 responses, police cleared the home, arrested two people living there for outstanding warrants and boarded it up.

ABC15 has reached out to police for additional information on the owners, residents and calls for service at the address.
